BERKELEY STARTUP CLUSTER HIGHLIGHTS

Berkeley Startup Cluster Advisors share updates & ideas with Berkeley Mayor Adena Ishii & other city leaders

BSC Advisor meeting

Lane Partners and JLL hosted an informative Berkeley Startup Cluster Advisor meeting at Berkeley Commons on March 12. Berkeley Mayor Adena Ishii, while introducing herself to the group, acknowledged that the city of Berkeley possesses a strong track record of fostering groundbreaking ideas and startups: “We are in a unique position as a hub for innovation, leveraging UC Berkeley, the Berkeley Lab, and local talent within the city and across the region.  Berkeley-based startups have created successes in areas such as clean energy, biotech, AI, and food engineering to meet the challenges before us, i.e. climate change, health, etc. And the Berkeley Startup Cluster has played a key role in supporting entrepreneurial growth.” As such, she looks forward to championing Berkeley Startup Cluster priorities in the years ahead.

It was a great opportunity for innovation ecosystem leaders to connect and discuss continued partnerships to foster citywide innovation and economic development!

City of Berkeley elected officials witness local innovation hubs in action

Bakar Labs tour

The City of Berkeley Office of Economic Development has organized a Berkeley Innovation Asset Tour series to expose new Berkeley City Councilmembers and other City leaders to some of the most important programs and facilities spurring the local innovation ecosystem. Just this month, Mayor Adena Ishii,
Councilmembers Terry Taplin (District 2), Igor Tregub (District 4) Brent Blackaby (District 6), Cecilia Lunaparra (District 7), City Manager Paul Buddenhagen, and a representative from District 5 Councilmember Shoshana O’Keefe’s office toured Bakar Bio Labs and the UC Berkeley Entrepreneurship Hub

It was cool to learn that 90% of students who go through an internship at Bakar Labs receive a full time job offer and that the new eHub is building a community for students from interdisciplinary fields through their semester-long entrepreneurship practice tracks: Search, Test, and Build.

Thanks also to Berkeley SkyDeck and the Berkeley Lab for offering stops along the tour.
