Help us plant trees as part of our effort to grow the tree canopy on the west side of Aquatic Park.
Connect with nature and community at our tree planting event at Aquatic Park on Saturday, February 3rd, from 9am – 12pm. The City of Berkeley needs your help to plant new trees along the west side of the lagoon. This is part of our effort to create a nature-based separation between Interstate 80 and Aquatic Park, beautifying the Park with new tree canopy, and helping to increase the absorption of greenhouse gases.
To join the planting, meet at the Rowing Club parking lot at Aquatic Park (directions are below). Please RSVP by Wednesday, January 31st by emailing PRWvolunteer@berkeleyca.gov. On the day of the event please wear closed-toed footwear and clothing that can get a bit dirty. We will supply tools and gloves. We plan to dig holes, plant trees, and install support stakes. Morning snacks along with lunch will be available for all volunteers.
Stay for a ribbon cutting at 12:30pm to commemorate the West Bolivar Drive Tree Planting project.
We’ll celebrate the completion of the first phase of this grant-funded project that created a mile-long tree well, installed irrigation, and planted 100 trees between West Bolivar Drive and the freeway. This event will kick off the volunteer phase of the project. With community help we will plant an additional 150 trees in the natural space between West Bolivar Drive and the lagoon. These new trees will provide enhanced environmental and aesthetic benefits, like reduced air and noise pollution and new habitat for birds, pollinators, insects, and small animals.
