Cradle to Commerce (C2C), funded by the Department of Energy Office of Technology Transitions, is an unprecedented public-private incubator built to accelerate climate technology and equitable entrepreneurship. C2C is now recruiting inventors and diverse entrepreneurs from the public and private sectors to help commercialize national laboratory climate and energy technologies, particularly for buildings, nuclear, smart grid, and renewables. Innovators in the program will be provided with unparalleled scientific and entrepreneurial resources from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory as well as 3 other national labs and program partners.

The ICA Fund is recruiting its next cohorts for two programs.
The Accelerator is ICA's flagship, 14-week program for established, growth-stage companies earning ~$500K or more in annual revenue. Qualifying participants are eligible for up to $750K in investment from ICA following completion.
The Lab is an 8-week program for high-potential, seed-stage companies earning revenue and includes up to $50K in investment.

Companies can use state-of-the-art instruments and services on the UC Berkeley campus, for a fee, through the Berkeley Research Infrastructure Commons (Berkeley RIC). The Berkeley RIC serves startups as well as SMB and large companies. Berkeley RIC facilities include but are not limited to: nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), DNA sequencing and genomics, single crystal and powder x-ray crystallographic analysis, elemental analysis, mass spectrometry, and wet lab benches.

BERKELEY INNOVATORS MAKING NEWS
The Berkeley-based tech firm, Twelve — named for the carbon isotope that makes up the vast majority of carbon on earth — was started in 2015 by Etosha Cave and is exploring various applications for its technology which splits carbon dioxide and water into syngas to be used for fuels and other manufacturing applications. Cave is particularly excited about the incentives offered by the Inflation Reduction Act and the team will soon be setting up an additional research and development facility in Alameda.

Berkeley-based Harvest Thermal Home is addressing the final frontier for decarbonizing our lives: heating and hot water. The Harvest Thermal system requires only one heat pump the size of a suitcase which can run in the middle of the day and store the energy it draws from the grid in a thermal battery. Harvest Thermal has been found to cut carbon emissions by 90% or more compared to gas equipment and by 50% compared to standard heat pump setups.

Berkeley startup Capture6 has raised $6.255 million to develop its novel approach to capturing and sequestering carbon. The company's technology uses a strong base to turn CO2 in the atmosphere into minerals and is able to use its technology in combination with other industrial processes, such as water desalination plants.

Berkeley-based Climax Foods, headed up by former SpaceX scientist Dr. Oliver Zahn, is recreating the most desired animal foods using plants, starting with four creamy vegan cheeses. The startup has thus far raised $27 million to fund its mission of recreating the world’s most desired animal foods by unlocking what it calls a “smarter path from plants to food.”

Berkeley-based startup Visolis recently closed a seed funding round to further build out the company's platform for making carbon-negative high-performance materials, jet fuels, and specialty chemicals. The company is graduate of the Activate fellowship program that works in partnership with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s Cyclotron Road and will use a combo of biology and chemistry to turn molecules into a range of different products.
