Our newly renovated North Berkeley Senior Center adds a revitalized space for seniors to gather for classes, field trips, free or low-cost meals, classes, transportation, and more.
Seniors in Berkeley can enjoy a variety of classes, socialize, and use services to improve quality of life at our senior centers, including our newly renovated North Berkeley Senior Center.
As you age, you can enjoy more. Practice yoga. Weave. Play ping pong. Learn tap, country western line, soul line, and Chinese ethnic dances. Between our two centers, we provide access to games, a computer lab, and for those at least 60 years old, a weekday meal program.
Seniors can take part in social gatherings, including field trips to local museums, concerts, and movies, as well as support groups, help with personal errands, and shopping. We also offer presentations to promote self-care on topics such as health and social services.
Strengthen your body, build friendships, and connect to community.
Connecting seniors to services
Membership is free for seniors at both of the City's senior centers and includes access to a variety of classes, services, and social opportunities.
You just need to provide basic registration information and proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Read the “Berkeley Nugget” on the Senior Centers page for all up-to-date class offerings.
Some programs require seniors to present an ID for age verification.
Improvements to North Berkeley Senior Center
The remodel created some new spaces for added services while also improving the atmosphere through new floors, walls, ceilings, and additional windows that add a warm, welcoming natural light.
The renovations, totaling close to $8.5 million, were made possible through voter-passed Measure T1 funding as well as grant funding received from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Major facility improvements include critical earthquake retrofitting, installation of solar panels, and a new HVAC system.
The remodel and our ongoing efforts form parts of our goal and commitment to create a livable community for older adults.
Come out to a Berkeley Senior Center. Take classes. Make new friends. Grab a meal. We hope the community you find here can become a bigger part of your life.

Fortify your body now against COVID-19 by getting new vaccine boosters designed to combat the most widespread, current variant.
The current booster, also sometimes referred as the "Omicron" or "bivalent" booster, is available to anyone at least 12 years old. It protects against serious illness and death – risks more severe for those over 60 and others with certain medical conditions.
The new booster comes at a time when many restrictions have already eased or are ending, such as state and local vaccine requirements for childcare, dental offices, and some other workplaces that expire on Sept. 17.
This transition away from health orders allows individuals, businesses, and other venues to take more responsibility in lowering risk and preventing outbreaks. Common strategies continue to increase safety: effective masking, staying up to date on vaccination, knowing how and when to test, isolation, and quarantine.

Avoid parking in certain residential areas on Cal football local game days, when increased fines and towing start in some areas at 8:00 am.
Steer clear of parking in areas where you don't have a residential permit. If you’re coming from out of town, use BART or AC Transit and find alternative modes like shared bicycles and scooters that reduce traffic and are better for our climate.
Parking fines for those without residential permits are $225 and tow-away areas have been added in various sections of Residential Parking Permit Zones B, D, F, G, I, and K. See larger images of the enforcement map and parking garage options.
Dates for Cal home games include: Sept 24, Oct 22, 29, Nov 19, 25
