Learn about discounted rooftop solar and battery storage for homeowners

Sign up now to save money, reduce energy bills, and prepare for power outages

Get discount rates on rooftop solar and backup battery storage by pooling your buying power with others — and learn how to do so at a webinar series.

Two limited-time group buying programs available to homeowners, Bay Area SunShares and Resilient Home, offer free site evaluations and quotes, pre-negotiated price discounts, and other incentives for rooftop solar and battery storage.

These programs, combined with a 30% federal tax credit for rooftop solar, can help put clean, carbon-free renewable energy within reach of more Berkeley households.

Rooftop solar can lower utility bills, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and increase the value of your home. Battery backups allow you to store energy for later use, which can help keep essential devices like medical equipment and refrigerators running during power outages.

Learn about the benefits of home solar from the Sunshares program

When you sign-up for SunShares, you'll get a no-cost, no-obligation site evaluation to determine if your home is suitable for home solar, battery storage, or both. If you decide to proceed, you can choose to work with any of three vetted solar installers selected by a community evaluation committee.

Contracts must be signed by December 31, 2022, and installations take place in Spring 2023.

Bay Area Sunshares offers pricing 15% below the average market rate on rooftop solar and 10% discounts on battery storage, which can be installed with a new or existing solar system.

Solar and battery backup system from Resilient Home program

The Resilient Home program from East Bay Community Energy offers preferred pricing on new solar and battery backup installations through a pre-vetted installer.

Resilient Home participants also have an opportunity to earn compensation for sharing stored power back during high demand, and may be eligible for a $500 installation incentive.

Register for Coastal Cleanup Day on Sept 17

Join City staff, community groups, and volunteers from around Berkeley to help clean up trash and plastic pollution at local beaches, bays, and waterways during Coastal Cleanup Day.

Cleanup activities will take place from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm, along various areas of the Berkeley Waterfront and Aquatic Park.

You can pre-register online as an individual or group, and register in person on the day of the event. All participants must fill out a waiver; youth under 18 must have a waiver completed by their legal guardian.

Each movie will be shown on a large portable 20'x12' inflatable movie screen with premium audio-visual movie equipment for outdoor cinemas.

Check your City Council district as it may have changed after redistricting

Look up your City Council district to see what may have changed for you with the new district map.

Berkeley's eight City Council districts were updated during the redistricting process that happens every 10 years to address population changes. Your polling place or voting schedule for the November election may have changed.

The new map was drawn using public input at the direction of the Independent Redistricting Commission. The commission was a group of Berkeley residents selected to create politically neutral boundaries for the City’s eight Council districts.
