Home Hardening Workshops: Summer and Fall 2022

Wildfires are now more frequent, destructive, and fast-moving than ever.
It’s time to adopt a new mindset of making preparedness a daily way of thinking. It’s not a one time proposition. Learning to live with the risk of wildfire is a daily responsibility.

Make efforts to improve the chances of your home and property withstanding ignition by wildfire. It starts with easy, small steps that can make all the difference.

Berkeley Fire Department's Office of Emergency Services will be hosting three workshops to support residents as they make preparations to make their homes more ignition resistant.

Sheryl Drinkwater, architect, home-hardening expert and Berkeley resident, will guide community members through a discussion on focused topics that residents can take action on.

1. Prior to the first workshop, participants should watch the Home Hardening Town Hall presentation recorded on May 19th. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yLSoVFcRlk

2. Join the workshop for a group discussion on each month’s focused topic.

1. July 13th, 630p - Vents and Property Clean Up (Register Here)

Upcoming Event: What's in Your Disaster Kit?

Preparing for emergencies is part of life for all Berkeley residents.  With 16 years at Berkeley Police Department, Office Alex McDougall is currently assigned to Area 1 in the department’s Community Services Bureau. Officer McDougall will share his ideas and perspectives on his own disaster kit and how he approaches disaster preparedness to make sure he and his family are ready for emergencies.

7/27 - Wildfire Evacuation Workshop: Build Your Household Fire Weather Plan

Wildfires are now more frequent, destructive, and fast-moving than ever. It's never too early for Berkeley residents to prepare for the Red Flag Warnings and extreme fire weather conditions that summer and fall bring to our area. 

Berkeley Fire Department's Office of Emergency Services will be hosting workshops to support residents and community members as they make preparations for themselves and their households. This online workshop has two parts:

1. Prior to July 27, participants should review and complete a Fire Weather Plan at home with their family using the online videos, website, and Household Fire Weather Plan tool; and

2. On July 27, join for a group discussion on ways to improve your readiness.

Participants should watch the educational videos, review the wildfire preparation website, and complete their Household Fire Weather Plan with their family before joining us on the online workshop for a group discussion. During the workshop we will discuss ways we can all improve your household's customized plans for what to do during fire weather and wildfire evacuations.
