Berkeley High students embrace quantum computing 

CQC STEM CareerX Day 2020

Last week, Eko Devices and Cambridge Quantum Computing gave 12 Berkeley High School (BHS) students exposure to careers in tech, through office tours, hands-on STEM activities, and career mapping with tech industry professionals.  At Eko Devices, BHS students built their own wind-powered cupcake delivery systems (with the help of Eko Devices staff). At Cambridge Quantum Computing, students learned how the industry will transform encryption communications, materials, personalized medicine, machine learning, and more.

The Energy Biosciences Institute Entrepreneurial Business Incubator (EBI²) is currently accepting applications year-round from companies focused on biological and/or chemical research. Berkeley Haas' new Playbook for Dual Career Couples

Free Business Incorporation for Startups

The Startup Law Initiative at Berkeley Law (SLI) is an initiative run by UC Berkeley that offers free incorporation services to entrepreneurs. SLI’s services allow Bay Area founders to overcome costly barriers to conducting business. Founders will work with Berkeley Law students and attorneys from top Silicon Valley law firms to make ideas become reality.

Department of Energy opens up SBIR and STTR Grant Opportunities

The Department of Energy has released new 2020 funding opportunities for Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. $40 million in funding is available to small businesses looking to solve a myriad of science and energy challenges.

SkyDeck Ranked 4th Largest Bay Area Accelerator

The San Francisco Business Times released the list of largest Bay Area startup accelerators in the Bay Area, ranking Berkeley SkyDeck as the fourth largest. Rankings were based on the overall number of startups each accelerator worked with over the year, with a geographical spread across 12 counties in the Greater Bay Area. The powerhouse behind this growth is inherent to SkyDeck’s three-program structure: the Accelerator Cohort, the HotDesk Incubator, and the Global Innovation Partner program.

KiwiBot—a SkyDeck Moonshot—Makes its way to Denver University's Campus

Diminishing human error and excess costs of delivery, KiwiBot’s robotic food delivery system provides customers with their meals — on self-driving wheels. After revolutionizing the market for food delivery in Berkeley, KiwiBots have now been sprinkled across the campus at Denver University. While still in its trial period, KiwiBot has experienced heavy demand and has accumulated multiple businesses in its delivery pool. The company and its local team are making strides at DU, with a long-term goal of providing 24-hour service.

CITRIS Foundry Welcomes Spring 2020 Cohort

The new spring cohort of CITRIS Foundry teams was announced February 13 at a Foundry event featuring Rich Lyons, UC Berkeley’s first-ever Chief Innovation and Entrepreneurship Officer. The 32 teams cover deep tech fields from AI and engineering systems to materials science and biotechnology, tackling issues including health care, energy and the environment, transportation, and sustainable infrastructure.
