Selected fellows receive a $80K-$110K yearly living stipend, access to world class research facilities, and unparalleled support in moving their ideas from science to product.

The Startup Law Initiative at Berkeley Law (SLI), an initiative of the University of California, offers free incorporation services to entrepreneurs. SLI’s services allow Bay Area founders to overcome costly barriers to conducting business. Founders will work with Berkeley Law students and attorneys from top Silicon Valley law firms to make ideas become reality.

LOCAL ENTREPRENEURS MAKING NEWS
Berkeley Brewing Science (BBS), the company launched by researchers at U.C. Berkeley, have produced a genetically engineered yeast to make a hoppy beer without adding any additional hops. Drakes Brewing is now using the BBS yeast to make beer at their brewing locations across California. Weird Science – as the new beer is appropriately called – is a 5.2% ABV pale ale.

Over the past three years, companies based in this city famed for its prestigious university, liberal politics, and inventive cuisine have brought in $880 million across at least 257 known rounds. That’s more than much larger cities like Miami and Phoenix. Astellas Pharma Inc. and Berkeley-based iota Biosciences Inc, announced a joint research and development agreement to explore new biosensing and treatment measures using ultra-small implantable medical devices. iota develops millimeter-sized implantable medical devices that use wireless communication and ultrasound as a tool for power supply.
