The 3rd annual symposium on Women in Tech will highlight women's experiences in AI and representatives from established companies, startups, academia, and government will explore the promise of the new technology. A new free coworking space is available to the entrepreneurs of Berkeley. The Commons, located on the first floor of the Central Berkeley Public Library at 2090 Kittredge St., has opened a new work space with a wide array of comfortable seating and table options and increased electrical outlets for device charging.
Do you have an idea for how to address all the waste created by single use cups? The NextGen Cup Challenge is seeking to identify and commercialize solutions for the single-use, hot and cold fiber cup system. Top ideas are eligible to receive a portion of the $1 million in funding and the top six ideas will have the opportunity to enter into a business accelerator program.

The D-Prize Global Competition is designed to fund new entrepreneurs who increase access to proven poverty interventions. Winning teams will receive up to $20,000 to launch organizations that address the challenge of distributing mass-scale poverty interventions.

BERKELEY ENTREPRENEURS MAKING NEWS
Two UC Berkeley startups aim to connect and aid others. Bear Founders, created to help Cal entrepreneurs, is open exclusively to Berkeley students, graduates, and staff and allows them to browse Berkeley-based startups, view job openings, and message others on the platform.
Squishy Robotics is creating technology to aid first responders in disaster response, including drones that deposit robots with visual, audio, chemical, biological, radiological and GPS sensors.

Kinshapes, a Berkeley-based creative incubator, will launch VR programs utilizing art and content created in the Afro-Futuristic style in order to reach young people of color. Co-founders Achille Massoma and Tyrone Schieszler hope that by telling the stories of black and brown communities, they will inspire and enable children in these communities to engage in tech.
