The 2018 East Bay Innovation Awards will celebrate companies and organizations that make the East Bay one of the nation's preeminent regions of innovation. To qualify as a nominee, an organization must:
- Be a for-profit business or not-for-profit organization, with headquarters or operations in Alameda or Contra Costa Counties.
- Have achieved an innovation in the East Bay that is being used for new and improved products, processes, services, systems or methods.

Formed as a partnership between the Haas School of Business, the College of Engineering, and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, SkyDeck combines the consulting know-how of traditional accelerators with the vast resources of its research university. BERKELEY ENTREPRENEURS MAKING NEWS
Eko Devices, founded by UC Berkeley students Tyler Crouch, Jason Bellet and Connor Landgraf, was featured in the Business section of The New York Times in August. The company's latest product, the Duo, a digital stethoscope which allows patients to monitor their health at home and send the data to their doctors is scheduled to become available by prescription in the Fall.

Aduro Biotech, Inc. (Nasdaq:ADRO), a Berkeley-based biopharmaceutical company with three distinct immunotherapy technologies, issued a press release in August to announce that the US Patent and Trademark Office had issued the company two patents related to the activation of the STING (Stimulator of Interferon Genes) Pathway, a central mediator in triggering the development of tumor-specific immunity.
