UC Berkeley's First Ever Virtual Innovation Hub

The University of California, Berkeley has created its first ever virtual hub for innovation on campus, named Berkeley BEGIN – the Berkeley Gateway to Innovation. Now entrepreneurs can more easily connect in one simple web portal with UC Berkeley’s robust network of innovation courses, incubators, accelerators, funding, and social networks.

UC Berkeley Sutardja Center takes on the meat industry

The University of California - Berkeley's Sutardja Center has created a new Alternative Meats Lab (alt.meat lab) to give students a leg up on a trillion-dollar market opportunity: transforming the meat industry. The lab will use the latest technology tools and techniques to engineer plant-based meat alternatives – with animal meat-eaters as the target market.

The 2018 East Bay Innovation Awards will celebrate companies and organizations that make the East Bay one of the nation's preeminent regions of innovation. To qualify as a nominee, an organization must:

  • Be a for-profit business or not-for-profit organization, with headquarters or operations in Alameda or Contra Costa Counties.
  • Have achieved an innovation in the East Bay that is being used for new and improved products, processes, services, systems or methods.

Berkeley-based Eko Devices in The New York Times 

Eko Devices, founded by UC Berkeley students Tyler Crouch, Jason Bellet and Connor Landgraf, was featured in the Business section of The New York Times in August. The company's latest product, the Duo, a digital stethoscope which allows patients to monitor their health at home and send the data to their doctors is scheduled to become available by prescription in the Fall.

Aduro Biotech Gains Two New Patents 

Aduro Biotech, Inc. (Nasdaq:ADRO), a Berkeley-based biopharmaceutical company with three distinct immunotherapy technologies, issued a press release in August to announce that the US Patent and Trademark Office had issued the company two patents related to the activation of the STING (Stimulator of Interferon Genes) Pathway, a central mediator in triggering the development of tumor-specific immunity.
