Host A 100 Celebrations Event
Help Belmont reach 100 community celebrations! As we celebrate Belmont’s 100th birthday, we’re inviting the community to host 100 celebrations throughout the year. You host the celebrations, and we’re tracking each one as we work toward our goal of 100! Your celebration can be big or small; you can host a dinner with neighbors, a walk with friends, a block party, and more! Whatever brings people together to connect, share stories, and celebrate Belmont counts as one of our 100 community celebrations.
Want to make your gathering an official part of the Centennial celebration? Email centennial@belmont.gov with your celebration details. We’ll add it to our tally, and we’d love to see your photos, too! Hosting a celebration? We have a little something to help! Prepare Now for the Rainy Season
The National Weather Service reports a chance of a very strong El Niño event this fall and winter, with the potential for heavier rainfall, flooding, and coastal impacts. Now is the perfect time to prepare ahead of the rainy season. Please take time now to clean your gutters, clear leaves and debris from storm drains, trim trees and branches as needed, prepare a go-bag, plan for potential power outages, know your evacuation zone, and sign up for SMC Alerts to receive emergency notifications.

SMC Fire's Annual Chili Cook-Off
Join San Mateo Consolidated Fire this Saturday, September 12, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Central Park in San Mateo for their annual Chili Cook-Off fundraiser. Entry is $15 and gets you a cup of every chili available, a bowl of your favorite chili, and a drink ticket! This event will have music, a free jump house for kids, and more!

Join us for an evening of stories, poetry, and conversation at Author Reading Night at Twin Pines Manor on Saturday, September 26, from 6–8 p.m. Meet four talented local authors and hear them share their work. Featured artists include Jeannette Ferrary (Eating Alone: Moments in Time), Bart Charlow (The Catskill Summer), Megan Duffy Brown (Read Me My Vows), and M.B. Kelly (To Want For Nothing series). City Council Recognizes Retiring Community Development Director Carlos de Melo
At Tuesday’s City Council meeting, the City of Belmont proudly recognized Community Development Director Carlos de Melo for more than 25 years of dedicated service to the Belmont community.
Since joining the City, Carlos has played a defining role in shaping Belmont’s future. He led major long-range planning efforts, including the 2035 General Plan, Belmont Village Specific Plan, Climate Action Plan, and multiple Housing Elements, helping guide the City’s growth, housing, sustainability, and community character.
Carlos also championed placemaking and community identity, helped preserve Belmont’s natural and historic resources, and guided an extraordinary range of residential, commercial, and affordable housing projects. His work helped bring hundreds of new homes, including affordable housing opportunities, to Belmont.
For more than two decades, Carlos has left his mark on neighborhoods throughout Belmont through his leadership, expertise, and commitment to the Belmont community. We are incredibly grateful for his decades of service and the lasting impact he has made here in Belmont.
To ensure a seamless transition, Deputy Community Development Director Laura Russell has been appointed Community Development Director.

Construction Around Town Gears Up
Two projects are expected to begin full construction next week. Work on the San Juan Pump Station and Force Main Project is expected to begin late next week and continue through the year's end. The 2026 Pavement Rehabilitation Project will begin with concrete work in the downtown neighborhood. Please help keep workers safe by following all posted signage and using caution around work zones.

California Coastal Cleanup Day
Join us for the 42nd Annual Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 19, from 9 a.m. to noon in front of City Hall, 1 Twin Pines Lane. Together, we will remove plastic pollution, protect local wildlife, our health, and our environment. Bring family, friends, a community group, or a school. Free Program Takes Guesswork Out of Recycling
Puzzled about what goes in the green, black, and blue bins and what really gets recycled? Two experts will explain proper sorting and answer your questions at a free program offered by Citizens Environmental Council on Wednesday, September 16, from 7–8:30 p.m. at the Burlingame Community Center (850 Burlingame Ave., Burlingame). Belmont Waterdog Run
For the past six years, hundreds of local participants have run, walked, cheered, and had fun at the annual Belmont Water Dog Run while helping raise money! This year's run will be held on Saturday, September 26, and includes a 5K, 10K, 1-mile, and Fido run. Volunteer opportunities are also available.
