Climate Action & Adaptation Plan: Summer Draft Coming Soon
Thank you to everyone who has shared feedback on the Climate Action & Adaptation Plan to date, through workshops, surveys, emails, City Council meetings, and more — your input is directly shaping this plan.
This April, the Belmont Planning Commission and City Council reviewed the draft measures and actions, which included the specific strategies and steps the City would take to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prepare for climate impacts. The meeting materials and recordings are now posted on the project website. Staff is currently refining the draft measures and actions based on all feedback received, with the full draft plan expected this summer.
If you have not already, you can still review the draft measures and actions and submit comments to sustainability@belmont.gov for consideration in the final plan.

Infrastructure Insider
Hill Street and El Camino Real HAWK Project
The City of Belmont is excited to begin work on our Hill Street and El Camino Real HAWK Project, representing a meaningful investment in the Belmont Village Area. This project involves constructing a High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk (HAWK) at the corner of Hill Street and El Camino to significantly improve pedestrian and bicycle connectivity. By linking surrounding residential neighborhoods and nearby housing developments directly to the Belmont Caltrain Station, the project aims to enhance connectivity, accessibility, and safety, potentially reducing pedestrian travel time for train commuters by 10–15 minutes.
Key elements of the construction include installing a Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) and implementing curb extensions at the proposed crossing for traffic calming and safety. To ensure smooth traffic flow, the project will integrate traffic control systems to coordinate the PHB with existing signals at the Ralston and El Camino intersection. Additional vital improvements include curb ramps for accessibility and refreshed landscaping at the median island to improve visibility at the crossing.
Work is expected to begin in July of this year, with a 2-3 month procurement period. Construction is anticipated to start in October and finish in December.
