Belmont Police Conducting Sobriety Checkpoint
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 3, 2026
On April 9, 2026, the Belmont Police Department (BPD) will be conducting a Sobriety Checkpoint from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. at an undisclosed location in Belmont.
The purpose of Sobriety Checkpoints is to promote public safety education and enforcement, and to remove impaired drivers from operating cars on our roads. DUI Checkpoint locations are determined based on data on incidents of impaired-driving-related collisions.
“By removing impaired drivers from our roadways, we are making our community safer,” Chief Stenquist said. “Sobriety Checkpoints are also a strong tool for educating motorists and deterring impaired driving.”
BPD would like to remind our community that impaired driving isn’t restricted to drunk driving but can also be caused by driving under the influence of medicinal and recreational marijuana, certain prescription medicines, and illicit drugs.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program (CTFGP).
