Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Poetry & Essay Contest Winners Recognized at City Council Meeting
Student winners of the 2026 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Poetry and Essay Contest were honored during this week’s city council meeting, where they shared their winning submissions reflecting on Dr. King’s powerful legacy. The contest invited young writers to respond to his vision of equality, justice, and unity.
During the meeting, students read their original poems and essays aloud to council members, families, and community members. Inspired by Dr. King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech, their pieces explored how his message continues to resonate today.
Congratulations to all the winners! Their participation highlights the importance of youth voices and civic engagement in carrying forward Dr. King’s message of hope and equality.
Now is the time to weigh in on the draft measures and actions for the City of Belmont's Climate Action and Adaptation Plan. Through March 20, we invite you to review the plan and share your feedback. The complete draft measures and actions are available to read in full. To share feedback, please email sustainability@belmont.gov.
In addition, our second community survey is live and asks which measures and actions you'd like the City to focus its resources on, and which you are ready to take on yourself. For more information on the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan update, please visit the project website.

What would you want someone to discover 100 years from now? Take our survey to cast your vote by April 15 and help be part of Belmont history.
