Belmont Library Reopens with New Makerspace
The Belmont Library has officially reopened and is excited to welcome the community back to a refreshed space, featuring a permanent makerspace, equipped with a 3D printer, Glowforge laser cutter, sewing machines, and Memory Lab to preserve digital media memories. The makerspace will offer programs that spark creativity, foster learning, and encourage hands-on exploration for all ages.
The new makerspace is made possible through the generous support of the Friends of the Belmont Library and a donation honoring longtime resident John Christgau.

County Sues State Over $38 Million in Withheld Funds
The County of San Mateo has filed a lawsuit alleging the State of California is withholding nearly $38 million owed to the County and its 20 cities, including Belmont. Local leaders say the money is vital for health care, public safety, and affordable housing. The dispute centers on the Vehicle License Fee Adjustment Amount (VLFAA), a funding source established in a 2004 budget compromise. County officials argue the State’s failure to pay violates its own law and threatens core services from Daly City to East Palo Alto. Learn more here.
