Twin Pines Park Discovery Update
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 1, 2025
The City of Belmont is aware of the public’s interest regarding recent activity in Twin Pines Park associated with an ongoing creek improvement project. During routine work, a discovery was made that prompted immediate coordination with local authorities and relevant agencies.
Out of respect for the sensitive nature of the situation and in accordance with established protocols, work in the affected area has been temporarily paused. The City is working closely with law enforcement, cultural resource specialists, and designated tribal representatives to ensure all next steps are handled appropriately and respectfully.
A portion of Twin Pines Park was closed on July 31, 2025, to allow law enforcement to investigate this area further. Specifically, in connection with the Ylva Hagner missing person case from 1996. Law enforcement has determined that this discovery is not associated with this past case.
While we understand there may be questions, details about the specific nature of the discovery will not be disclosed to protect the site and prevent unauthorized access. We kindly ask for the community’s understanding as we prioritize both legal compliance and cultural sensitivity.
The rest of the park remains open and accessible to the public. Updates will be provided as appropriate.
For further inquiries, please contact the Belmont Police Department at (650) 595-7400.
