Help Reduce Fire Risk in Your Neighborhood!
The Belmont chipping program is expanding to select streets east of Alameda de Las Pulgas later this month. All chipping will occur on Tuesday, August 26th and there will be no makeup days. You MUST register with the Parks & Recreation Department by 5pm, Monday August 25th to participate. Eligible addresses will have received a letter in the mail, explaining participation. Visit www.firesafesanmateo.org or www.belmont.gov/wildfire for more information. This work is funded by FireSafe SMC.
You can also join the Belmont Heights Civic Improvement Association (BHCIA) for a practical look at making homes safer from wildfire on Wednesday, August 13th at 7pm. IBHS Research Scientist Evan Sluder will share full-scale test results that show how roofs, vents, decks, and the first five feet around a house influence ignition from wind-blown embers, plus the most cost-effective retrofits homeowners can tackle now. Court Reservation Update
We have partnered with Rec, a modern reservation and registration platform, to introduce a clear schedule of play and free court reservations at Alexander and Hallmark parks’ pickleball and tennis courts. Players will be able to view a live schedule of play, reserve slots to play pickleball and tennis, and make an account at rec.us/belmont. Once players make an account, they will be able to book up to two court reservations per day and six reservations per week. The system uses mobile verification to confirm reservations.
City Launches Climate Action and Adoption Plan Update
The plan update will establish key strategies for increasing resilience to climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions to align with State targets. The City invites the community to get involved by taking the survey and signing up for future updates at www.belmont.gov/ClimateAction
