Fraudulent Invoices Targeting Planning Department Customers
The City of Belmont has been made aware of a fraudulent email scheme targeting both current and former Planning Department customers. The scam involves sending fake invoices using the names of Belmont city staff and instructing recipients to wire money to a fraudulent account. The current reports of this scam utilize an email address of Planning.belmont.gov@usa.com.
Residents are urged to be cautious and not respond to these specific emails or send any payments. Please be vigilant and thoroughly check email addresses that include Belmont within the address structure.
The City of Belmont Community Development Department receives payments from Planning Department customers through an online portal called eTrakit or with a physical check with an appointment at our Permit Center.
If you receive any suspicious communication, are uncertain about the legitimacy of an email claiming to be from the City, or if you have received an invoice from the City of Belmont and would like to verify its authenticity, we encourage you to contact us directly via email at cdev@belmont.gov or call us at (650) 595-7417.
