Fraudulent Invoices Targeting Planning Department Customers
The City of Belmont has been made aware of a fraudulent email scheme targeting both current and former Planning Department customers. The scam involves sending fake invoices using the names of Belmont city staff and instructing recipients to wire money to a fraudulent account. The current reports of this scam utilize an email address of Planning.belmont.gov@usa.com.
Residents are urged to be cautious and not respond to these specific emails or send any payments. Please be vigilant and thoroughly check email addresses that include Belmont within the address structure.
The City of Belmont Community Development Department receives payments from Planning Department customers through an online portal called eTrakit or with a physical check with an appointment at our Permit Center.
If you receive any suspicious communication, are uncertain about the legitimacy of an email claiming to be from the City, or if you have received an invoice from the City of Belmont and would like to verify its authenticity, we encourage you to contact us directly via email at cdev@belmont.gov or call us at (650) 595-7417.

The Launch of the Fats, Oils, and Grease Control Program
The City of Belmont will soon begin routine inspections of local Food Service Establishments (FSEs) as part of its Sewer System Management Plan (SSMP) Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) Control Program. These inspections are mandated by orders from the State Water Resources Control Board and aim to reduce potential blockages and overflows related to FOG in the City's sanitary sewer system.
The program focuses on educating facility owners and staff about the proper maintenance of grease control devices (GCDs), such as grease traps and interceptors, while encouraging best management practices to keep FOG out of the sewer system.
During these inspections, the City's contract inspectors will review facilities' cleaning and maintenance records, check grease and solids levels, inspect the condition and operation of GCDs, and ensure the proper disposal of fryer oil. These efforts are essential for protecting public health, the environment, and the City's infrastructure. For more information about the City's FOG Control Program, please visit www.belmont.gov/FOG or call (650) 595-7425.

Public Works Highlights
This week, Public Works Operations staff placed signs at the city limits on Ralston, Alameda, and El Camino to remind everyone that the use of fireworks is prohibited in Belmont. Additionally, the team repaired a damaged pedestrian crosswalk lighting system, filled over 100 potholes, and replaced more than 9 tons of failed asphalt throughout the city. After a tree company accidentally knocked down overhead power lines last week, staff collaborated with a vendor to restore power to all streetlights on Ralston from Cipriani to Lyall in record time by assisting with traffic control to allow for the safe replacement of all overhead power lines.
