 Groundbreaking Creek Restoration Ceremony
Thank you to everyone who joined us Tuesday, June 3, for our Groundbreaking Ceremony to mark the beginning of construction on the Twin Pines Park Belmont Creek Restoration Project. This special event marked the beginning of a transformative project aimed at restoring the health and resilience of Belmont Creek, as well as creating a more vibrant park experience.
The Belmont Creek originates in Belmont and runs through the unincorporated Harbor Industrial Area (HIA) of San Mateo County along the border of San Carlos before reaching the San Francisco Bay. The lower, flatter segment of Belmont Creek, which runs through the HIA, can experience flooding in rain events as well as siltation from upstream sediments, necessitating periodic channel dredging and maintenance. The Creek Restoration Project aims to mitigate severe erosion and bank failures within Twin Pines Park, thereby reducing the frequency of dredging and maintenance downstream. The project also aims to create a more ecologically functional stream channel and riparian habitat while enhancing the creek's integration with the recreational facilities in Twin Pines Park.

A special thank you to our inspiring speakers—Director of the San Mateo County LGBTQ Commission Tanya Beat and Belmont Poet Laureate Monica Korde—for their powerful words and presence.

Construction in Twin Pines Park
Due to the Belmont Creek Restoration Project, access to Twin Pines Park west of the Veteran's Memorial will be restricted and the Redwood Picnic Area will be closed beginning Monday, June 16. Construction truck traffic may also cause intermittent delays during the construction work.
The project will restore over 500 linear feet of Belmont Creek within Twin Pines Park, both upstream and downstream of the Redwood Picnic Area bridge. To learn more and track construction updates, please visit the project website, also accessible via the QR code on project signs posted throughout the park.
