Belmont Police Urge Safe Driving and Riding During National Bike Month
The Belmont Police Department encourages everyone to be alert to keep bicyclists safe. With warmer weather, more people are biking for commuting, exercise, or recreation, making it essential for everyone to look out for one another and save lives.
To help keep people biking or walking safe, the Belmont Police Department will conduct traffic safety operations throughout the month focused on driver behaviors that put bicyclists and pedestrians at risk, such as speeding, making illegal turns, failure to yield the right of way, and running stop signs or red lights.

HIA Community Meeting Recap
Thank you to the community members who attended our HIA Community Meeting on May 12. We had almost 40 people attend to hear our update on the proposed building heights, building setbacks, and streetscape design for Harbor Blvd. We had onsite simultaneous translation services offered in Spanish, which were used by a handful of attendees.
We are still in the process of compiling the comments we received from the meeting. The meeting materials, including the PowerPoint presentation and the meeting boards, will be posted on the HIA project website next week.

Public Works Highlights
This week, the Public Works Operations staff undertook several important projects. They cleaned illegally dumped debris, refreshed over 250 feet of red curb paint, and addressed street light outages. Additionally, they replaced a failed red traffic signal light bulb and resolved a malfunction in the vehicle detection system at the intersection of Ralston Avenue and Hallmark Drive. The team also repaired a sinkhole in the roadway by replacing more than one ton of asphalt, and replaced an unstable retaining wall and fence in the City-owned parking lot at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Emmett Avenue.
