Cannabis Retail Update
After careful consideration and extensive community conversations over the past few years, the City Council has moved to approve two business applications to establish cannabis retail operations within Belmont’s El Camino Real commercial corridor. This follows a thoughtful policy process focused on safety, community compatibility, retail need, and economic benefit. For more information, view the City Council meeting and staff report from March 25 here. Final Council action on this matter will occur at the April 8 meeting.

Fire Hazard Severity Zone Maps Now Available for Public Review
Cal Fire has released updated Fire Hazard Severity Zone (FHSZ) maps for Local Responsibility Areas (LRA), which are now available for public review. These maps identify areas within Belmont and surrounding communities that are at elevated risk for wildfire, based on factors such as vegetation, topography, and weather patterns. We encourage residents to view the maps and learn more about how this update may impact their properties.
San Mateo Consolidated Fire staff will present further information and answer questions about the FHSZ maps at an upcoming City Council meeting (date to be announced). In the meantime, we encourage all residents to stay prepared. For tips on defensible space, evacuation planning, and more, visit our Wildfire Preparedness webpage.
