Eucalyptus Tree Removal on Ralston
Fire Safe San Mateo County, in collaboration with the City of Belmont Parks Department, will be removing 12 large Eucalyptus trees along the south side of Ralston Avenue between Continental Way and Lyall Way on Nov. 4-15. Limb and trunk failures have become a common occurrence, and these trees are overhanging power lines. Removals will be limited to Eucalyptus trees and the native Oaks will remain in place. Removing the non-native Eucalyptus trees near the power lines is a strategic ignition prevention project that has been prioritized by the department. There will be one lane traffic controls along the east bound lane of Ralston Ave. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thank you to SMC Fire for their support and thank you in advance for your patience as we tackle this important work.

2024-25 Property Tax Update
The City’s revenue consultant, HdL, has provided a property tax summary on the City’s change in assessed valuations. For the current fiscal year 2024-25 tax roll, Belmont experienced a 6.2% growth in taxable assessed value, compared to a 5.8% growth countywide. Belmont’s increase is largely due to the completion of two new projects, Artisan Crossing project at 1325 Old County Road and the Hayden Apartments at 815 Old County Road.
For every property tax dollar paid in Belmont, about 7 cents get distributed to the City’s General Fund, which funds for essential services including fixing potholes, repairing streets and sidewalks, 911 response times, and quality of life services including recreation programs, parks, open spaces, and sports fields. The largest portion, about 42 cents, goes to the school districts, with the remainder going to the Educational Revenue Augmentation Fund, San Mateo County, and Belmont Fire Protection District. See the breakdown of a property tax dollar paid in Belmont on our website).

Clear Leaves & Storm Drains to Prevent Flooding
As autumn transitions to winter, falling leaves can accumulate and block storm drains, increasing the risk of localized flooding. The City of Belmont helps reduce debris by sweeping residential streets every other week, but residents can take additional steps to keep drains clear. This includes moving your car before sweep days, keeping yard debris out of the street or gutter, keeping leaf piles under 1 ft, trimming trees and vegetation back from the curb, and ensuring a 14-foot vertical clearance over the road so street sweepers can reach the gutter. If you notice leaves covering a storm drain or flooding due to a blockage and can clear it safely, please rake the leaves away and notify Public Works at 650-595-7425. For additional resources and information, visit www.belmont.gov/storms.
