Belmont Creek Dredging Project
On Oct. 8 and 9, the annual dredging project took place in Belmont Creek from El Camino Real to Old County Road near Harbor Blvd. The Public Works Stormwater Maintenance Crew setup three coffer dams to stop water flow and installed a pump for creek bypass during the project. Contractors removed approximately 286 tons of silt and debris to facilitate ample water flow during the rainy season. Prior to the start of dredging Belmont staff removed 7 tons of vegetation from the banks of the creek.

Public Works Highlights
The Public Works Operations team recently addressed MyBelmont service requests, enhancing visibility by trimming around traffic signs, filling potholes, repairing trip hazards, refreshing over 3,500 feet of red curb paint, and replacing 3.5 tons of failed asphalt citywide. The team also supported the Belmont Trunk or Treat Bash at Twin Pines with setup and cleanup and assisted Parks with a tree-trimming project using our aerial lift truck. Additionally, staff are regularly checking and stocking sandbag stations for residents at the Barrett Community Center, City Hall parking lot, and Corporation Yard.

Water Dog Lake Dam Gates to Open Monday November 4
The Public Works maintenance staff will open the gates at water dog lake spillway on Monday, Nov. 4. The Department of Water Resources Division of Dams requires the spillway gates to remain in the fully open position through April 1. Water releases allow the rainwater to be released in a measured way due to rain events and are necessary during the rainy season to reduce possible flooding from the lake. Residents may notice higher than normal water levels in Belmont Creek during the first 24-hours once the gate is open.
