It is with great heartache that we announce the passing of Sekope Tagilala Sr., a valued member of our police department. As the Code Enforcement Officer, Sekope began in 2022 and has been dedicated to improving the quality of life in Belmont ever since. Prior to the department, Sekope served our community as a long-tenured employee of the Sequoia Union High School District where he worked for many years at Carlmont High School. Sekope Sr. passed away on September 6, 2024.
Sekope was a kind-hearted and dedicated member of our team who was committed to ensuring the safety and compliance of local ordinances, maintaining the standards that make Belmont a great place to live. During his tenure with the police department, Sekope became a tremendous asset within the city, often collaborating with other city departments to make improvements and resolve issues on many different levels. Colleagues describe him as hardworking, compassionate, and always willing to lend a helping hand. Most importantly, Sekope was a devout husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family, his church, and rooting for his favorite sports teams.
Chief Ken Stenquist said, “This is such a tragic loss on many levels. Sekope was larger than life and had the most infectious smile. His sudden passing will be challenging for us to overcome. He will be deeply missed by all of us who had the privilege of knowing him.”
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested any condolences or remembrances be sent in written form to the Belmont Police Department at 1 Twin Pines Lane, Suite 160, Belmont CA 94002, and they will be forwarded to the family.
The Belmont Police Department would like to send our deepest condolences to Sekope’s family. We are committed to supporting them as we grieve this tragic loss together.
