City of Belmont Revised Housing Element Adopted
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Sept. 12, 2024
The Belmont City Council adopted the Revised Housing Element 2023-2031 on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024. This version of the Housing Element replaces the previously adopted version from January 2023. In July 2024, the State Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) completed its review of this revised version of the Housing Element and found that the draft met the statutory requirements of the State Housing Element Law. The Planning Commission then held a Public Hearing on August 20, 2024, and unanimously recommended that the City Council adopt the revised Housing Element.
The Housing Element is a state-mandated policy document that outlines the City's goals, policies, and programs to promote the development of a diverse range of housing options. It includes both affordable and market-rate housing to meet the needs of all community members. This document is a vital component of the General Plan and outlines strategies for accommodating current and future housing needs.
The 2023-2031 Housing Element is currently being reviewed by the HCD for final certification. Once certified, the Housing Element will guide the City's housing policies and actions through 2031.
