The Belmont Police Department Mourns the Unexpected Passing of Long-Tenured Community Service Officer
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Brian Weddell, a beloved and dedicated Community Service Officer who served our community for 28 years.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested any condolences or remembrances be sent in written form to the Belmont Police Department at 1 Twin Pines Lane, Suite 160, Belmont, CA 94002. The Police Department will forward anything received to the family.
We extend our deepest condolences to Brian Weddell’s family during this difficult time. The Belmont Police Department is committed to supporting them and our community as we grieve this significant loss together. Additional information is available here.

City Council Summer Recess
The City Council will be on summer recess for the month of August. City Council meetings are canceled on Aug. 6 and Aug. 20. The City Council meetings will return on Sept. 10.

Promote Your Business at the Belmont Caltrain Electrification Celebration
Caltrain will be launching their electrified services in September and are planning a corridor-wide celebration. The City of Belmont will be hosting a celebration at the Belmont Train Station on Sept. 21 from noon to 2 p.m. and we are seeking local businesses to join us! If you would like to have a booth at the event to showcase your business or serve food, please email communications@belmont.gov to sign up. Please note that businesses are responsible for bringing their own supplies, tables, shade tent, chairs, etc., and there will be no power at the event. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Fall 2024 Registration Opens August 5
Registration for all fall classes and special events opens on Monday, Aug. 5! We are happy to be offering a wide range of classes and events for all age levels and interests. Register to decorate your car, take a trip to see a Broadway play, or become the best pickleball player you can be. Please keep in mind, registration for the Fall Tree Giveaway opens on Aug. 12 and registration for the Holiday Craft Faire opens on Sept. 3. Public Works Highlight
This week, Public Works Operations crews replaced failed pedestrian crosswalk signal activation buttons, fabricated customs signs, continued working on installing ADA curb ramps, and replaced 9 tons of failed asphalt all around the city.

Upcoming 2024 Pavement Project
Construction for the 2024 Pavement Project will begin in early August. The work includes applying a slurry seal—a thin layer of asphalt and aggregate that is cost-effective and quick to apply—on several miles of city roadway, extending the life of the roadways by 5-7 years. Additionally, there will be more intensive repairs in small, structurally damaged areas. Temporary lane closures and traffic control measures will be in place during the construction. The Big Lift Launches "Let’s Read San Mateo County"
The Big Lift —an initiative of County of San Mateo, San Mateo County Libraries, and San Mateo County Office of Education — launched the Let’s Read San Mateo County website designed to support young readers & their families. Content is available in English, Spanish, Chinese, and Tagalog and shares strategies to raise a confident reader, milestones for ages and grades, and links to books and videos.
