After a nationwide recruitment, City Manager Afshin Oskoui has appointed Nisha Patel, P.E. as the City’s new Public Works Director. Patel will assume the director role on July 22, 2024.
"I am confident that under Nisha’s leadership, our Public Works Department will continue to advance the essential services that our residents depend on daily. Her exceptional breadth of experience will be a tremendous asset to our entire city," Oskoui said.
In her new role, she will lead a dedicated team of Public Works staff, overseeing essential operations that ensure the maintenance of critical city infrastructure, the successful execution of capital improvement projects, and fostering sustainable development. The Public Works department maintains the City’s streets, sewers, drainage facilities, water pollution and environmental services, solid waste collection and recycling, fleet and equipment services; planning, designing, and constructing public facilities and infrastructure; and regulating and facilitating private development.
Patel brings over 26 years of civil engineering experience, including 16 years of high-level capital improvement project and construction management experience. Before joining the City of Belmont, she served as the Public Works director and engineer for the City of Seaside and previously as manager of Engineering and engineer for the City of Berkeley. Patel brings significant experience in both public service and the private sector and possesses comprehensive expertise across all facets of public works.
