Citywide Sanitary Sewer Root Foaming Starts Next Week
In an ongoing effort to conduct preventative maintenance on the sanitary sewer mains, we have scheduled Dukes Root Foaming to treat 36,000 feet of sewer main city-wide from Monday, May 20 through the first week of June.
Root control is essential to maintaining our sewer systems. The root foam used for this purpose has the consistency of shaving cream and is released into sanitary sewer lines to kill roots within the line and prevent regrowth for up to three years. Trees and other above-ground vegetation are not harmed in this process. The product used is Razorooter® II, which is the only diquat-based herbicide registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for controlling nuisance tree roots in sanitary sewer line collection systems and received a classification of “evidence of non-carcinogenicity for humans” (USEPA Diquat R.E.D. Facts, July 1995).
Duke’s Root Foaming placed door hangers to inform residents of upcoming treatments and will also notify residents if they need access to an easement on their property.
For questions or more information, please contact Public Works at (650) 595-7425.
