Public Works Staff Recognized by the American Public Works Association
Our Public Works team has been honored with multiple awards from the American Public Works Association (APWA) this year. Elizabeth Wada, senior civil engineer, received the Young Leader Award. This recognition acknowledges young APWA members who have demonstrated an early commitment to the profession and the association who display potential for future growth within the organization. This highlights the large impact recipients, like Wada, make in their community early on in their career.
Janice Svensen, administrative assistant, was honored with the Administrative Professionals award. This achievement recognizes outstanding capabilities in administration within the public works field. The award celebrates individuals who inspire excellence, leadership, and dedication to the public good.
Congratulations to the recipients and thank you to our entire Public Works department for all that they do to keep our city running!
Mental Health Proclamation
To honor May as Mental Health Awareness Month, the Youth and Teen Recreation Coordinators from Belmont and San Carlos, Danielle Giuliacci and Emma Licko, were honored with a proclamation from Belmont City Council for their hard work on the first annual Teen Wellness Retreat. This event allowed teens to destress and refresh their mental health and well-being through various workshops and self-care activities. We look forward to hosting this event again next year.

Business Stakeholder Forums
Thank you to all who have participated in our business forums, focus groups, and survey regarding the business license tax update effort. Your feedback has been critical to our decision-making process.
Based on the City Council's feedback on April 23, we will be holding two business forums next week to discuss our current preferred alternative business license model, a "Business (Gross) Receipts by Category" model. Please RSVP to attend either (or both) of the following forums.
In addition, to continue to encourage feedback across all business types, we have reopened our online survey, including the alternative model tax calculator tool. All survey responses will be considered in our final recommendation to the City Council this June.
