A Buzzing Earth Day Event
Public Works hosted its annual Earth Day Event on Saturday, April 20, at Twin Pines Park. Local organizations and businesses had the opportunity to educate the public on environmental issues and the importance of sustainability through exhibits and interactive activities.
The event was a huge success, with over 150 attendees. There was a demonstration of a living beehive with a busy buzzing bee colony, courtesy of our friends the Beekeepers Guild of San Mateo County. The Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA brought Trumpet, an adoptable (very treat motivated) Japanese quail! Thank you to all who participated and attended; we look forward to another wonderful event next year.
City Clerks Association of California Elects Communications Director
Congratulations to our City Clerk, Jozi Plut, on her election as the Communications Director for the City Clerks Association of California. Plut has 14 years of experience in the clerks office and was appointed as the Belmont City Clerk in 2021. In her new role, she will be updating the association's communications policy and branding. Her extensive knowledge and leadership are an asset to both Belmont and the City Clerks Association. We are truly grateful for your contributions to the field and the City of Belmont.

Business Stakeholder Forums
Thank you to all who have participated in our business forums, focus groups, and online survey; your feedback has been critical to our decision-making process.
Based on City Council feedback received on April 23, we will be holding two business forums in May to collect feedback on our current preferred alternative business license model and rates. Visit the Business License Update webpage for more information on this effort or to RSVP to attend a forum.
In addition, to continue to encourage feedback across all business types, we have reopened our online survey, including the alternative model tax calculator tool. All survey responses will be considered in our final recommendation to the City Council this June.

How to Properly Assist Wildlife in Need
If you find a wild animal that may appear orphaned, injured, or distressed, please call the Peninsula Humane Society at (650) 340-7022 for guidance and assistance. If it’s safe to do so, you can bring the animal directly to their Center for Compassion located at 1450 Rollins Road in Burlingame between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. every day. If you find a wild animal in need of care after hours and it’s safe to transport, please bring the animal to After Hours Receiving at the Coyote Point shelter, located at 12 Airport Blvd in San Mateo. Do not give any food, water, or medicine – that often does more harm than good. Do not attempt to remove fishing lines or something that may be caught or tangled around the animal. Learn more here.
