FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 27, 2024
The City of Belmont is pleased to announce the appointment of Elizabeth Tsachres as the inaugural communications and community affairs officer. This new role is a vital part of the City’s strategic plan to enhance community engagement efforts and increase communications with our valued residents.
As communications and community affairs officer, Tsachres will play a pivotal part in refining communication strategy, orchestrating a unified city response, and leveraging her content creation skills to actively engage the public.
"I believe we have a responsibility in government to provide accessible, transparent, and reliable content that resonates with all our residents. This builds trust with our community to be a dependable source of information for all who call Belmont home," stated Tsachres.
Tsachres brings over a decade of experience working with diverse stakeholders, including five years as an educator in San Mateo County. Before joining the City of Belmont, she served as communications specialist and deputy public information officer for San Mateo County Health, where she played an integral role in media relations, public affairs, and crisis communications. She also served as communications specialist at the California Department of Public Health.
Tsachres earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, followed by a teaching credential at Notre Dame De Namur University, and a master’s in public health from the University of California, Berkeley.
For Tsachres, this role was a natural progression. "I grew up in Belmont, attended school here, and even played basketball at Holy Cross church growing up. This community is special to me and I am honored to give back," she said. "I am eager to ensure our residents continue to receive clear communications and highlight the incredible work our staff does daily or during challenging times, like the winter storms last year."
City Manager Afshin Oskoui expressed enthusiasm, stating, "We are thrilled to welcome Elizabeth to our team. Building trust and goodwill with residents through our communications and community engagement is a high priority. Her expertise in equitable communications will empower all Belmont residents to access the information they need."
Tsachres assumed her new role on Monday, Feb. 19.
