2023 Community Service & Beautiful Belmont Award Winners Announced
On Tuesday, Dec. 12, the Belmont City Council's last meeting of the calendar year was full of gratitude and joy. First, we celebrated those who have gone above and beyond in maintaining or improving their properties. The winners of the 2023 Beautiful Belmont Awards are 890 Laurel, 2280 Ralston, 1661 Ralston, 1220 Judson, and Tacos El Grullense C&D #4 on Ralston. You have all made Belmont a more beautiful city.
We also recognized residents who have made significant impacts on the quality of life in Belmont this year through their volunteer work. The winners of the 2023 Community Service Awards are Cari Pang Chen, Adele Della Santina, Mike Fabel, Huan Phan, and Ilona Holcomb.
Finally, we had the honor of celebrating Zoe, a local student who won the HIP Housing calendar art contest. Her amazing art is featured on the November 2024 page.
Congratulations to all our winners and thank you for your contributions to our community.

Weekend Traffic Alert
Traffic delays are anticipated at the intersections of Ralston Ave/Old County Rd and Ralston Ave/El Camino Real now through the weekend. Please plan extra time if heading this way.
Vehicle traffic detection at Ralston and Old County is not functioning properly, so signals have been placed into maximum recall, meaning all directions of traffic get the maximum amount of green time regardless of actual traffic conditions. This can also cause traffic signals to fall out of sync and make accommodating peak traffic challenging.
Staff are working diligently to resolve the matter but anticipate returning the signal to optimal timing and adaptive operations next week.

Belmont Creek Restoration & Twin Pines Storm Water Detention Basin Project Updates
The Belmont Creek Restoration Project aims to improve water quality, remove invasive species, re-plant vegetation, enhance habitat, decrease downstream siltation, and stabilize creek banks. This project has just completed 60% design, and engineering staff will review 90% design plans in early 2024. Meanwhile, the Twin Pines Storm Water Detention Basin Project, working to locate a water storage basin under the Belmont City Hall parking lot, is at 90% design.
|
The environmental teams for both projects are working to meet CEQA requirements with a Mitigated Negative Declaration and Environmental Impact Report.
It is anticipated that both projects will be able to begin construction in spring or summer of 2025. Belmont, San Carlos, and San Mateo County (Harbor Industrial Area) residents can look forward to seeing the benefits of these projects, including reduced downstream flooding, reduced creek sediment and siltation, and cleaner stormwater flowing to the Bay.
Learn more about each project below.
