Learn to Help Someone in Crisis: Mental Health First Aid
Most of us would know how to help if we saw someone having a heart attack — we would start CPR or call 911. But too few of us would know how to respond if we saw someone having a mental health or substance use-related crisis.
Just like taking CPR or first aid courses, you can take Mental Health First Aid, to learn how to help someone who's experiencing a crisis.
Starting this August, San Mateo County Libraries will offer in-person 'Mental Health First Aid' trainings to the public.
In the training, participants will learn about the most prevalent mental health and substance use crises experienced in the United States, as well as how to implement an action plan when helping someone who’s experiencing a crisis.
Below are the scheduled dates and locations for the Mental Health First Aid training. Click on the links to find the registration for each event

Maintenance Work This Week
As the summer season comes to a close, our Public Works Operations staff have returned to more regular business such as street light repairs, various sign fabrication/repair work, and pothole filling.
Just on Ralston Avenue alone -- from Hallmark Drive to Alameda de las Pulgas -- staff filled 166 potholes using almost 20 bags of asphalt patch repair material weighing 50 pounds each.
Some more involved repair work will still be carried out as needed, such as the dip in the road on Julia Court that was repaired this week.
Staff removed the sunken asphalt there, inspected and compacted the sub-surface base below, and then installed and finished two tons of fresh asphalt to restore the roadway.
Public Works Operations staff also assisted colleagues in the Parks Department with traffic control for tree trimming along Cipriani Boulevard, necessary to clear overgrowth blocking the right of way for SamTrans buses and other large vehicles.
We thank our residents for their patience and cooperation when they see us working in the community. Slowing down or waiting for us to complete a task means everyone gets home safely at the end of the day, thank you.
