The Belmont Way - Helping the Recovery in Maui Supporting People in their Time of Need
The recent devastating fires on Maui have left a profound impact on the beloved island and its people. However, amidst the challenges, we are inspired by the outpouring of compassion and support that has emerged.
Belmont stands with Maui, and we encourage our community to provide help to those affected by the wildfires.
By contributing we hope to assist and directly aiding in the restoration of the communities impacted, helping families rebuild their lives, and rejuvenating the natural landscapes that make Maui so breathtaking.
We're sharing some initiatives that are making a tangible difference in Maui's recovery because donating is the most impactful way to help those affected by the wildfires.
Making sure that your money actually makes it to the people you're trying to help by choosing an organization that's well-established (like the United Way or Red Cross) or endorsed by the state or local government (like the ones we've included below).

Learn to Help Someone in Crisis: Mental Health First Aid
Most of us would know how to help if we saw someone having a heart attack — we would start CPR or call 911. But too few of us would know how to respond if we saw someone having a mental health or substance use-related crisis.
Just like taking CPR or first aid courses, you can take Mental Health First Aid, to learn how to help someone who's experiencing a crisis.
Starting this August, San Mateo County Libraries will offer in-person 'Mental Health First Aid' trainings to the public.
In the training, participants will learn about the most prevalent mental health and substance use crises experienced in the United States, as well as how to implement an action plan when helping someone who’s experiencing a crisis.
Below are the scheduled dates and locations for the Mental Health First Aid training. Click on the links to find the registration for each event

Safety Enhancement Project on El Camino Real Continues Red curbs being painted to improve pedestrians, cyclists safety
Caltrans is continuing a safety enhancement project in various cities on or near State Route 82 (El Camino Real).
The project includes installing accessible pedestrian signals (APS) and countdown pedestrian signals (CPS) at 181 locations.
Caltrans also is painting red curbs from crosswalks to enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists. Adding the red curbs is expected to enhance the sight lines between a pedestrian waiting to cross at the crosswalk and approaching traffic. Because of the safety enhancements, some parking spots are being removed.
The Belmont areas are as follows:
- Northbound Harbor Boulevard
- Northbound O’Nell Avenue
- Northbound and Southbound Middle Road
- Northbound Davey Glen Road
Caltrans realizes that this project affects residents and businesses along El Camino Real but is confident that the improvements will increase safety across the county.
There are nine other routes in San Mateo County where safety enhancements are being implemented. Caltrans thanks motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists for their patience while we work to maintain our state's highways, bridges, and tunnels.
