Celebrating Moms Everywhere
Sunday is Mother's Day and we are proud to honor all of the moms who come to work here at the City of Belmont every day. In the collage above, we're sharing a little bit of our everyday motivation to serve our community well.
From first-time moms to longtime moms, to moms gone too soon, to moms too far away to hug, to moms of furbabies, to moms we hold close in our hearts, and to unofficial moms who make us feel loved, we wish you all a splendid Sunday celebrating the nurturing influencers in your life.
Happy Mother's Day!

Be Cyber-Safe Aware
A reminder about online security
Lessons learned from other agencies:
Printers on the City of Dallas’s computer network spontaneously began printing out ransom notes recently, one of many signs that the city’s IT system had become the victim of a cyberattack.
The automated emergency dispatch system was affected, along with other service outages. It has also caused the county courts to close.
- According to developing news stories, a group called Royal used a tactic called “social engineering”
- This involves sending emails about a package that was unable to be delivered or an unpaid invoice, asking the victim to call a number for help. When the victim calls, the hackers gain access to their network
How you can protect yourself
It’s not just government agencies and businesses that are targeted by these cybercriminals. Individuals can be victims, too. That’s why it’s so important to be cautious and diligent when it comes to online security.
Here are some tips recommended by the FBI:
- Keep systems and software up to date and install a strong, reputable anti-virus program.
- Create a strong and unique passphrase for each online account you hold and change them regularly. Using the same passphrase across several accounts makes you more vulnerable if one account is breached.
- Do not open any attachments unless you are expecting the file, document, or invoice and have verified the sender’s email address.
- Be careful when connecting to a public Wi-Fi network and do not conduct any sensitive transactions, including purchases, when on a public network.
- Avoid using free charging stations in airports, hotels or shopping centers. Bad actors have figured out ways to use public USB ports to introduce malware and monitoring software onto devices that access these ports. Carry your own charger and USB cord and use an electrical outlet instead.
Did you know the federal government has an entire agency dedicated to preventing cybercrime? It’s called the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, or CISA for short. You can get updates on the lates issues by clicking the button below.

Peninsula Humane Tips: What to do if your pet is lost?
Becoming separated from your pet can be very scary, and it’s important that you act quickly to search for your animal.
If you have lost your pet, as soon as possible visit the Pensinula Humane SPCA shelter offices at 12 Airport Blvd in San Mateo during open hours (Monday to Friday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed most holidays.)
Shelter staff will ask you to complete a lost report and take you through the kennels to see if your pet is at the shelter. Each year, the Humane Society reunites thousands of stray pets with their human companions.
If you have lost an animal and cannot visit right away, please call 650-340-7022 for help.
Stray animals are held for the state mandated four-day period (excluding the day they arrive) before being evaluated for adoption.
Some more tips to consider if you’ve lost your pet:
- Post fliers in the area where your pet was lost.
- Search your neighborhood and talk to your neighbors to let them know your pet is lost.
- Post on social media sites with information about your lost animal.
- It’s also very important to make sure your animal is microchipped and that the microchip information is up to date.
