Earth Day Events 2023 Recap
Belmont responded with a resounding YES to our call to honor Earth Day.
Our Public Works Corp Yard staff saw a steady stream of cars throughout the day as our residents responsibly recycling their e-waste and shredding.
Shredding dropped off filled the bin, and we topped off six large container boxes of e-recycling, saving all of the waste from entering the landfill.
|
The crowds at Twin Pines Park were quick to scoop up the free compost and remained on site to enjoy the information booths from our many event partners.
The dynamic and interactive displays engage our visitors in all things earthly and gave kids of all ages many take aways on actions they can take for a greener earth.
|
Our Public Works Department opened a raffle for a compost starter kit, complete with active worms already working on breaking down the organic materials.
The winner of his first-ever compost kit was young Waylon N, pictured here with this family (he's holding the compost kit in his arms).
Congratulations Waylon, we hope you'll turn that starter kit into a lifelong habit of composting.

You can Make a Difference for Local Farmers
Did you know? Belmont is a proud member of the Resource Conservation District Compost Broker Program.
Why? The compost collected in Belmont helps farmers and ranchers all over San Mateo County get reduced-cost compost, helping our local farmers thrive and stay local.
How Can You Help? It’s easy, always compost in the green bin. Your efforts to discard your yard scraps and food-based waste in the correct bin helps Belmont to meet its SB1383 goals while supporting county farmers to grow the best, healthiest, and local foods.

Sunday's Event in Twin Pines Park
We're looking forward to this year's Celebrate the Music in Twin Pines Park. Crowds are expected to be large, so plan ahead for getting here.
Open Space Status
We do not like closing open space trails, but we do so for the safety of all park visitors. Here are some friendly reminders about the closures:
- Stay off closed trail sections. Do NOT go around or move barriers or signs. Doing so is in violation of Belmont City Code: 16-34 BCC.
-
Closed trails are Chapparal trail from Elevator to John Brooks, Rambler from John Brooks to Finch, and Rambler from Ohlone to Canyon Creek.
- Trail damage and conditions will be assessed as soon as possible.
- Stay off wet trails. If you leave a tire or footprint, it is too wet.
- Dogs must be on leash at all times.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
