Community Meeting: Placemaking Guidelines Join us on Oct. 12 at 4:30 p.m.
Streetscapes may seem simple – but a lot of planning goes into improving the look and feel of our streets, sidewalks, and public spaces.
We have been developing detailed design guidelines for streetscape treatments in the Belmont Village Specific Plan (BVSP) area. The guidelines will create public placemaking opportunities and ensure that incremental improvements will result in an integrated and consistently high-quality streetscape system. Priorities will center on:
- Street Trees
- Special Paving
- Sidewalk/Street Width
- Seating
- Bike Racks
- Trash Receptacles
- Banners/Hanging Baskets
Join our City Council’s Placemaking Committee for a community meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2022 from 4:30-6 p.m. at City Hall (second floor, EOC room) to review the "Draft BVSP Streetscape Design Guidelines" to see and comment on our streetscape plans for the future.

Belmont's Ralston Middle School Earns Blue Ribbon U.S. Department of Education Recognition
San Mateo County, CA — Congratulations to Burlingame Intermediate School and Ralston Middle School who were named 2022 National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education.
Both schools were designated as Exemplary High Performing Schools, earning this recognition for their academic excellence in English and mathematics. Burlingame Intermediate and Ralston Middle are among only 29 California schools and 297 schools nationwide earning this honor in 2022.
The prestigious National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools with outstanding academic performance or achievement in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.
The U.S. Department of Education receives nominations for the awards from the top education officials in all states and territories. Schools earning the award are honored at an awards ceremony in Washington, DC, and receive a plaque and flag to display at their school.
“Congratulations to the students, staff, and families of Burlingame Intermediate School and Ralston Middle School,” said San Mateo County Superintendent of Schools Nancy Magee. “This award recognizes their ongoing commitment to the work of teaching and learning, with educators and families working together to bring the best education possible to their students. We celebrate their success and their school community.”
Report from Public Works Streets Division One Step to Protect Our Streets
Ever wonder what those squiggly lines of tar on our roadways are? Although it may look like a totally random act it does serve a specific purpose.
Prior to a street’s rehabilitation surface cracks are sealed (crack seal) to prevent moisture from entering the pavement and eroding the base. After which a top coat (slurry seal) is added and the roadway has a new lease on life.
This week, the Streets Division put down 3,218 linear feet of crack seal. A busy week, and a large list, and the team moves on to new priorities next week. Thanks Public Works!
