Belmont, CA -- The City of Belmont will hold a General Municipal Election on Nov. 8, 2022. Two seats on the five-member City Council will be up for election -- one each from newly formed Council Districts 1 and 3 for four-year terms-- and an At-large Mayor for a 2-year term.
The nomination period opens today, Monday July 18th closes at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, 2022. Only registered Belmont voters 18 years of age may run for Mayor. Belmont voter registration and residency in Districts 1 or 3 is required to be a Councilmember candidate for the respective district. Districts 2 and 4 will hold elections in 2024.
Councilmembers whose terms will be expiring are Julia Mates, Charles Stone and Warren Lieberman.
There is no filing fee for running for office, although candidates are responsible for their share of the cost of printing the candidate statement in the sample ballot booklet, should they choose to provide one. This cost also includes the required translation into Spanish and Mandarin Chinese.
