COVID-19 Update
Even though COVID-19 has largely faded into the background for many people, we are continuing to monitor developments. COVID cases are increasing again around the county, including here in Belmont. According to County Data in the last 30 days we have experienced 475 known cases. We all still play a role in helping slow the spread so you may see employees once again wear masks while indoors at city libraries, community centers and other public buildings. We do not have a requirement that members of the public wear masks, but you may want to do so.
 Other Quick Updates

City staff presented the proposed annual operating budget for next fiscal year at the May 24 City Council meeting. Staff from the city’s finance introduced the Fiscal Year 2023 budget and provided an update to the City Council including update economic head winds. Staff will caution that due to the war in Ukraine, inflation, supply chain issues, potential CA State budget actions, and a gradual lessening of pent-up demand from COVID-19 lockdowns, the economy remains volatile. The budget will be adopted by the Council at their June 13th meeting.
- As a preview, we are projecting a balanced budget next year, while maintaining all core city services at their current levels and making measurable progress on some big initiatives important to the community.
- You can see the details in the meeting agenda and staff report.

Unsure where to properly dispose of your used batteries and other stuff? Check out drop-off sites to find the nearest location. Please remember to call the location ahead of time to check their open hours and if there is a limit!
Senate Bill (SB) 1383 was enacted by the State to address climate change, reduce emissions, and redistribute edible food to those in need. The biggest change for our community is that all residents and businesses are required by law to actively participate in compost programs. If you don’t already have composting at your home or business, you will need to start new service. Help us divert your food scraps from the landfill, where they would otherwise decompose and produce methane – one of the most potent greenhouse gases in Earth’s atmosphere.
