Refinancing of Sewer Treatment Facility Revenue Bonds, Series 2009A
On April 26th, Council authorized the refinancing of Sewer Treatment Facility Revenue Bonds, Series 2009A. Overall debt service payments will be reduced, thereby saving Belmont approximately $3.5 million. In refinancing these bonds, the City was also able to achieve interest rate savings by refinancing at a lower interest rate (2.15%), as well as increase debt service coverage on all on obligations payable from Sewer Treatment Facility Revenues. The bond refinancing has since closed, and due to the City’s continued diligence and prudent financial stewardship, future increases to sewer facility charges have been mitigated.

City of Belmont to provide temporary bike extension lanes/designated bike path for Bike To Work/School Day
On Friday, May 20th from 6-10 a.m., Belmont will take part in the 2022 Bike to Work and School Day.
This year, to encourage and increase the number of people biking to work and school, Carlmont High School students are asking for support from the Cities of San Carlos and Belmont to help create “protected bike lanes” for the day. There will be a dedicated bike route with temporary expansions of bike lanes throughout Belmont, including coning off the bike lanes on Ralston and Alameda for the morning commute, without impacting the vehicle travel lanes. The route includes the Pathway at Twin Pines Park in Belmont, Ralston Avenue, Alameda de las Pulgas, and San Carlos Avenue in San Carlos, respectively. Six schools and many residents will participate in this environmentally friendly event. For safety of all-aged bicyclists, a plethora of safety equipment, signage, and supervision of city officials/authorized adults to ensure safety during the entire bike route. Belmont Public Works and Police Departments will help create the safe routes to school demonstration on the morning of May 20th.
Energizing stations will be set up along the bike route where riders will be provided encouragement, tips on ride safety, and more. One confirmed station is on Alameda de las Pulgas and Chula Vista sponsored by the Crossing Community Church.
Join the community in this wonderful event that will raise awareness around sustainable transportation and promote long-term environmentally friendly change.
Bike route, road closures and bike lane extension map can be accessed here.
The event is a partnership between the City of Belmont, City of San Carlos, Redwood Shores School District, and San Mateo County Safe Routes to School Program.
