And Poof, it’s gone!
That’s what happened Saturday when residents lined up to unload their E-waste during the 10th Anniversary of Belmont’s Earth Day Event. Our community also took advantage of other stations to shred their confidential documents, collected compost for their garden, and some volunteers came out to clean Belmont Creek at Twin Pines Park. Mid-Peninsula Water District also made a showing to share information on water saving activities for their home, providing informational material, children’s activity books and giveaways.
The annual celebration also kicked off the Children’s Poster Art Contest for the Earth Day event. The winner’s artwork was used in advertising for the event, as well as the 2022 Earth Day Event Flyer. All the finalists were invited to the April 26th City Council Meeting, where the children received a certificate from the Mayor for their environmental awareness efforts through art.
Thank you to our residence for taking proactive steps to make a big impact in reducing our carbon footprint, and keeping Belmont a Green, Clean, Community. We appreciate you!

Work on City Streets
PG&E and AT&T Infrastructure: Project crews continue to work on city streets to connect the new Express Lanes infrastructure to the existing PG&E and AT&T grids and for PG&E to install new service locations and meters where necessary. Work to connect power to overhead signs and freeway lighting may occur on streets in the cities of Belmont and San Mateo. Nearby residents and travelers can expect to see crews from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. This work may produce intermittent low vibrations and construction vehicle noise, and may require temporary lane closures (one-way traffic). Cones and flaggers will safely direct traffic around closures.
Please note, due to weather concerns and equipment availability, the full closure of southbound U.S. 101 from South Airport Boulevard to San Bruno Avenue planned for Sunday, May 1st is CANCELLED and has been rescheduled for Sunday, May 15th, from 1:00 AM to 6:00 AM. We appreciate your continued patience as we work to accomplish this important task. More info 101Express Lanes

PG&E Commercial Building Retrofit Series: Electrification--May 11, 2022, 8:30am – 1:00 pm
PG&E’s Energy Center announces a five-part Commercial Building Retrofit series of expert-lead webinars. These presentations are free and open to the public with continuing education credits offered.
Electrification involves the replacement of gas-fired equipment with systems that run on electricity and is something that all building owners should consider to meet carbon emissions goals. This training will address the unique challenges involved in converting existing buildings and their systems to all-electric designs. Special attention will be given to electrification of existing mechanical/electrical/plumbing (MEP) systems, such as space heating and domestic/service hot water production. Planning strategies for an evolving utility grid and case study project examples will be shared. Register HERE.
Why does this matter to you?
To reach the ambitious energy reduction and emissions goals set at the national and state levels, there must be a concerted effort to pursue improvements with our existing building stock. According to Next 10’s study titled “Untapped Potential of Commercial Buildings Energy Use and Emissions,” these buildings represent 37% of California’s total electricity consumption, and energy efficiency improvements using readily-available technologies could reduce the energy use of these facilities by 80 percent. The opportunity is vast and the time to act is now.
