Measure I Sales Tax Progress Report Presented to City Council
At last Tuesday’s Council meeting, Public Works staff presented a progress report and slide show highlighting what Measure I means to the Belmont community. This voter-approved 1/2 cent sales tax measure is generating over $2 million dollars per year and is enabling the city to make major investments in roadway surfacing, pothole repairs, 911 emergency response and storm drain/flood prevention projects. Without it, Belmont would continue to struggle with deferred maintenance and deteriorating infrastructure. With it, the city’s Pavement Condition Index (PCI – a measure of citywide pavement condition) has risen from 56 to 68 in just a few years. Granted, not all residential streets have been paved, but many are scheduled for improvements between summer of 2022 and the end of 2026.
For more information about when city streets are slated for improvement, please review the Five-Year Pavement Plan. The Measure I progress report, list of streets recently repaved using Measure I dollars, and slide show presented to City Council this week.

Age-Friendly Community Initiative Coming to Belmont
With the support of the County of San Mateo and with the assistance of The Center for Age Friendly Excellence, the City of Belmont has begun planning an Age Friendly Community initiative that will help the city look at ways they can enhance the community’s livability for its older residents. As a first step, focus group discussions – via Zoom, by phone, and in-person – are being scheduled for May. During these meetings, residents aged 55+ will learn what an age friendly initiative is all about and also have an opportunity to provide input on aspects of community life in Belmont. More information about this initiative will be presented at the April 26 City Council meeting. To be part of these focus groups (Ages 55-75 and 75+), please email parksrec@belmont.gov or call (650) 595-7441.
