Project Updates
Twin Pines Park Belmont Creek Restoration
The City of Belmont partnered with the city of San Carlos, San Mateo County, and the Department of Water Resources to fund the creek restoration project. The project’s goal is to stabilize the creek’s banks and channel using vegetation, trees, and other engineering practices. This will alleviate downstream flooding and sedimentation, improve the health of the creek, allow for connection to the proposed Twin Pines Park Storm Water Detention Basin Project, and return portions of the creek to a more natural condition. The City plans to have a consultant on-board in February to begin preliminary design.
Twin Pines Park Storm Water Detention Basin
The City of Belmont has partnered with the city of San Carlos, San Mateo County, and the California Natural Resources Agency to fund the flood mitigation project by Twin Pines Park. Its engineering design will incorporate a detention basin for stormwater capture in high-risk flood areas and a sediment capture facility, with the stormwater outfall into Belmont Creek. The City plans to have a consultant on-board in February to begin preliminary design. A conceptual layout of the design is available to view on the City website.

With Peninsula Clean Energy, Belmont residents and businesses are helping the environment while saving money. In 2016, Belmont joined San Mateo County and all the other cities in the county to form Peninsula Clean Energy. Our purpose is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and provide clean energy at competitive rates.
Peninsula Clean Energy is a community-led, not-for-profit public agency that supplies electricity principally from wind, solar and hydro resources. We invest in helping communities switch from fossil fuels to clean electricity in buildings and transportation.
Belmont has chosen 100% renewable wind and solar to power all its municipal facilities.

Thermoplastic Striping and Road Markings
Thermoplastic striping for road markings is one of the most common types of road marking services. The thermoplastic material consists of pigments, binders, and glass beads. One unique characteristic of thermoplastic striping is the use of glass bead in the material, which makes the stripes reflective and visible at night. Heated to approximately 400 degrees, this type of material is melted first and then forms durable, longer lasting lines and symbols with nighttime visibility. Thermoplastic pavement marking is ready for use almost immediately, without drying time, so there is no need to shut down lanes of traffic.
Striping is a vital part of road paving job, and thermoplastic road markings are the best choice for finishing the project. It doesn’t crack, chip or shatter from impact. The process allows for quicker striping and long-lasting results. Therefore, thermoplastic striping has dominated the traffic marking industry for decades and continued to be the product of choice because of its durability, long wearing traits, and reflectiveness.
This week, the Streets Division placed thermoplastic striping at the intersection of Somerset Drive and Leigh Way. Photos below:
The crew also performed extensive work on San Juan Boulevard; removing 19.22 tons of failed asphalt and replacing with 19.22 tons of new asphalt and repairing a manhole on Hallmark Drive The Street Division will continue to perform dig outs and crack sealing throughout the City.

It's Our 10th Year Anniversary, and it is all because of You!
SAVE THE DATE and join us as we mark this wonderful environmental milestone to celebrate the 10th year anniversary for the Belmont Annual Earth Day Event.
Ten years ago, we all wanted to make a difference in our community by creating a healthier environment, put our green foot forward, and watched the Earth Day Event come to fruition. Although last year’s pandemic put a kibosh on activities, this year we move forward (with proper protocols in place) and dare to make a difference. We’ll continue the effort to reduce our carbon footprint and keep Belmont the beautiful place that it is.
We will kick off this year’s Earth Day Event celebration on Saturday, April 23rd from 9-noon as we go back in time to how it all started. We will host on-land and creek cleanups, compost give-away, document shredding, E-Waste Recycling, and a poster art contest for the kids! Please celebrate with us as we cleanup where we live, work and play.
**Location of event activities forthcoming
