Take Advantage of AMP's COVID-19 Payment Plan

AMP's COVID-19 Payment Plan enables business customers to pay off a past-due balance while keeping their utility account in good standing.

How it Works

The past-due amount is spread out over a specified period of time—this amount is called a monthly installment. Customers are required to pay the agreed-upon monthly installment, in addition to paying their current utility charges in full, by the bill due-date each month. Paying both the monthly installment and current utility charges gives you extra time to bring your electric account up to date.

How to Apply

To set up a payment plan, please call AMP's customer service team at (510) 748-3900.

Rolling Power Outages and the State’s Grid

Recently, Alameda has experienced rolling power outages and received emergency alerts during heat waves. The rotating outages were ordered by the California Independent System Operator (CAISO), which runs California’s power grid. Here is what you need to know:

CAISO orders rotating power outages as a last resort to help ease the demand on the grid when there is a statewide emergency. Rotating outages help prevent larger and longer power outages.

Notifications and Alerts

CAISO uses a number of notifications including:

  • Flex Alerts: CAISO asks consumers to voluntarily conserve energy.
  • Stage 1 Emergency: There is an urgent need to save energy because supply is not meeting demand.
  • Stage 2 Emergency: Conservation isn’t working; CAISO may order additional power plants online.
  • Stage 3 Emergency: Supply is not meeting demand; load shedding is imminent. At this stage, all utilities may be instructed to begin rolling outages to protect the stability of the grid.

Real-Time Updates

You can check energy demand in real time on CAISO’s website.

Prepare for Public Safety Power Shut-Offs

While the risk of wildfire is very low in Alameda, a public safety power outage (PSPS) could impact customers who receive electric service from AMP.

The Transmission Grid

AMP operates and maintains the distribution and transmission grid inside the city of Alameda, but the larger transmission grid brings AMP’s energy to Alameda—and it could be affected because some of these transmission lines run through high threat fire areas.

If large transmission lines are de-energized, then AMP may need to act quickly to help the greater electric grid. Depending on the severity of the event, it may mean power shut-offs in the city of Alameda.
