Thank you to everyone who contributed to our spectacular 4th of July celebration. It was a memorable day and fun for the whole family.
Join us on Tuesday, August 4, for National Night Out. It’s a chance to connect with neighbors, strengthen our community, and celebrate what makes American Canyon great. You can register your block party to receive special visits from American Canyon Police and Fire, and our City leaders. Registration is now open, don’t miss out on the fun!
Informed citizens make informed choices. The best way to become an informed citizen is by participating in our Citizens Academy. This year’s Citizens Academy is an interactive, nine-week program that gives you a behind-the-scenes look at how the City serves you. You’ll meet the people who serve you and learn how each department supports our community. Registration is now open, and I hope you’ll consider joining us.
The City Council has placed Measure P on the November ballot. Measure P is a proposed 1% sales tax measure that would provide funding for general City services. If approved, Measure P revenue would remain under local control and used for general City services, such as public safety, wildfire mitigation efforts, and parks and recreation. American Canyon has never been defined by a single person or single idea. Our City has grown and thrived because generations of residents have stepped forward to share their time, talents, and perspectives. Together, we’ve built a community rooted in service, collaboration, and a shared commitment to shaping a bright future.
This November, two seats on the American Canyon City Council will be on the ballot, creating an opportunity for community members to step forward in service. Serving on the City Council is one of the most meaningful ways to help shape our city’s future. Council Members make decisions that influence everything from public safety and parks to infrastructure, housing, economic development, and the quality of life we all enjoy. If you’ve ever considered serving your neighbors in a new way, I encourage you to learn more about what it means to be a Council Member.
Many people are interested in serving but aren’t always sure what the role involves or how to get started. That’s why we created two short videos to answer common questions. "A Day in the Life of a Councilmember" offers a behind-the-scenes look at the time, commitment, and responsibilities that come with serving, while "Thinking About Running for City Council?" explains eligibility requirements, key filing dates, and what prospective candidates can expect throughout the process.
The filing period is open now and the deadline to pull papers is Friday, August 7. I encourage you to watch these videos, learn more about the role, and consider how you can help shape the future of American Canyon. I look forward to seeing the next generation of community leaders step forward to help write the next chapter of our city’s story.

National Night Out
Join us on Tuesday, August 4, from 6–8 p.m. as American Canyon celebrates National Night Out! Neighborhoods across the community will host block parties to connect with neighbors, strengthen community partnerships, and promote public safety.
Throughout the evening, staff from the American Canyon Police Department, American Canyon Fire Protection District, and the City of American Canyon will be visiting celebrations across town. For more information on how you can register, click here.

Annual Storm Drain Maintenance Underway
The City will begin its annual storm drain inspection and cleaning program. From Monday, July 20 through November, Public Works crews will inspect storm drain inlets and clean inlets and pipes as needed.
This routine maintenance helps improve stormwater flow, reduce the risk of localized flooding, and prevent trash and debris from entering local waterways. Residents may notice crews working throughout the community during this time.

The 2025 Annual Water Quality Report is now available! This report provides important information about the quality of your drinking water, including how it is tested, where it comes from, and how we continue to meet or exceed state and federal drinking water standards.
We are committed to providing safe, reliable drinking water and keeping our community informed. We encourage all residents to review the report to learn more about the water you use every day.

Shenandoah Park Tree Replacement
The City of American Canyon’s tree replacement project at Shenandoah Park is underway. The park’s declining Blue Spruce tree is being replaced with a Deodar Cedar, a species better suited to the local climate and expected to thrive for years to come.
This reflects the City’s commitment to healthy, resilient parks and the principle of “Right Tree. Right Place. Right Future.” Work is scheduled from Monday, June 22 through Thursday, October 15, 2026.
We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we complete this park improvement project.

The annual summary highlights how public funds support essential services, including public safety, infrastructure, parks and recreation, and other community priorities that enhance quality of life.

Sales Tax Measure P
Measure P is a proposed 1% (1-cent) local sales tax measure that will appear on the November 3, 2026, ballot. If approved by voters, the measure would increase the City’s sales tax rate from 7.75% to 8.75% and is estimated to generate approximately $3.7 million annually to support general City services and community priorities.

Traffic Update: Green Island Road Reconstruction Project
Please note that there is no planned weekend closure for Green Island Road this weekend.
However, crews will be conducting overnight paving operations from the evening of Friday, July 17, through the morning of Saturday, July 18. While the road will remain open, drivers should expect construction activity and potential localized delays in the area.
If you'll be traveling through Green Island Road, please slow down, follow all traffic control devices, and allow a little extra travel time.
