March 11, 2022
Hello,
Have you taken the National Community Survey™(The NCS™) yet? This is an excellent opportunity for you to give us feedback on what we can do to improve living in American Canyon. Who better to tell us about your experience than YOU? The survey includes questions about quality of life, important characteristics of the city's community services, and priorities for the future. This survey closes on March 28.
Have you wondered how to participate in City business? View our tutorial on how to participate in our public meetings, and make sure to view our City Calendar of Meetings and Events to see what meetings are coming up.
Thank you to all who submitted questions during our State of the City Annual presentation held on February 25, 2022. Your questions and responses are now live on our State of the City webpage.
Water conservation is no longer an option, it is a way of life for all of us. We all need to do our parts to help save water. We have many programs and tools to take advantage of, such as our Recycled Water Program and MyWater Portal that can help you track your water use. We also offer water-saving rebates. Check out this video to learn more about the ongoing statewide drought conditions and how you can do your part in the water conservation efforts.
Keeping our streets safe is a high priority for us. The City has a Traffic Working Group that meets regularly to evaluate concerns about traffic safety while also addressing community member concerns. The Traffic Working Group consists of staff from the American Canyon Fire Protection District, American Canyon Police Department, and Public Works Department. Our Traffic Calming page provides helpful traffic safety related information. In addition, it provides a portal for our community members to share their concerns directly with our Traffic Working Group. Receiving specific information through this process is very helpful in addressing problems in a prescriptive manner. Unfortunately, there isn't an easy solution that will fix all issues since each situation has it's own set of considerations. The Traffic Working Group exists to find solutions that will keep everyone safe.
Stay tuned this spring for public meetings, community events, and so much more.
Take care,
Jason B. Holley City Manager

Bay Area High Schoolers: Apply for the Summer Academy on Transportation, Housing Equity & More
Do you know high school students interested in how the Bay Area grapples with issues like environmental justice, housing and transportation equity, community health and social justice? Join Bay Area Metro and four regional government agencies who are sponsoring an online Bay Area Summer Academy to provide insights into how regional governments address these issues and how the public, including students, can help advance equity across the Bay Area. Students from low-income households are encouraged to apply – the deadline is April 4, 2022.
During weekly one-hour online seminars in July 2022, students will learn about:
- What regional agencies do and the skills needed for a future career in the public sector.
- How to weigh in on decisions that impact the air we breathe, the neighborhoods we live in, how we get to work, school, exercise, and other factors that shape our communities’ health.
- How students can have a voice in making decisions that benefit their communities.
- Questions like how long is a bridge supposed to last? Why are there so many potholes? Why is housing so costly? Is the water really rising around the Bay?
Participating students will attend online sessions, complete quizzes, and make a brief presentation on a local challenge involving transportation, housing, environmental justice and/or related topics. For more information and to apply for the academy, visit- http://mtc.one/BayAreaSummerAcademy2022.
