January 14, 2022
Hello,
This afternoon we took time to welcome new team members and celebrate promotional and milestone service-year accomplishments for many of our staff. We typically do these recognitions in person during a summer or holiday celebration. The past two years, we've had to forego those gatherings. Our team, like everyone, has been through a lot through this pandemic. They continue to pivot and diligently work to serve our community. I am very proud of each of our entire team. I've included the list of who was celebrated below. You can view the event on our YouTube Channel.
On Tuesday evening, the City Council will officially swear in our Police Chief, Rick Greenberg. Chief Greenberg joined the team in an interim capacity in June 2021, when our former Chief Ortiz moved to his new post as the Napa County Sheriff. Chief Greenberg was hired by the Napa County Sheriff's Office in 2001. In 2021, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and assigned as the Chief of the American Canyon Police Department, a division of the Sheriff's Office. I hope you'll tune in and show your support to welcome our new Chief formally.
Please check out the latest information below from our Napa County Public Health Officer, Dr. Karen Relucio, on the recent surge in COVID-19 cases.
Take care of yourselves and one another,
Jason B. Holley City Manager

Masks provide an extra layer of protection against COVID-19. If you wear a cloth mask, we recommend wearing a surgical mask underneath it to improve the seal, or, for better protection, upgrade to a fitted N95 mask. With rising COVID cases, we must also increase our protections. Additional masking resources and guidance are available here: https://www.cdph.ca.gov/.../Get-the-Most-out-of-Masking.aspx |

Irrigation Off!
Sun’s out, irrigation OFF! We are excited for nice weather over the next week, but remember that our plants are still going strong from the recent rains 🌧️
With the water saturated ground, our greenery will continue to thrive without the need for additional watering. Please conserve water by keeping your irrigation system off! 🌱 #SaveWaterAmericanCanyon

CalRecycle Organics Regulations (SB 1383) Implementation Update for American Canyon
California Senate Bill 1383 (SB1383) has changed how organic waste is disposed of and recycled throughout California, including here in American Canyon. The bill, signed in 2016, establishes a statewide goal to reduce the amount of organic waste disposed of in landfills by 75% and recover at least 20% of edible food waste— by 2025. The City of American Canyon and Recology American Canyon are collaborating to implement the new regulations in effect under SB 1383. Once implemented, we will notify customers to begin following new guidelines for including organic items in the green cart.
For more information on SB1383 and what will soon be allowed in your green carts, visit recology.com/sb1383. In the meantime, customers should continue to use green carts for grass, leaves, weeds, and untreated wood along with tree and shrub prunings. Materials collected in the green cart are processed to create rich organic compost that enriches our area's farms, gardens, and yards. The organic food and paper scraps that will soon be included in the yard waste will help create compost that is even richer in organic materials. We appreciate your patience and look forward to our community's contributions to reducing organic material waste. Stay informed on this topic and subscribe for updates here.

Recent Water Main Breaks
Our crews have been busy in the past few weeks responding to water leaks. Thank you to our residents for their patience during these emergency repairs. We'd also like to share our appreciation for our dedicated staff who put in long hours in the overnight elements to save our precious resource, and get the water back on for our residents.
You might be wondering what's up with the uptick in leaks lately? The past few weeks we had a great amount of rain, and a few freezes. When the ground is saturated like it is now, it gets heavier and begins to shift underground. This weight and movement puts alot of pressure on our underground infrastructure, especially in high traffic areas with the extra weight from the vehicles on the road. Older infrastructure has a higher risk of not holding up in these conditions. If you have questions or want to know contact Felix Hernandez III, Maintenance and Utilities Director at fhernandez@cityofamericancanyon.org.

Fire Hydrant = No Parking
Did you know the California State Vehicle Code Section 22514 prohibits parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant? The reason for this is to ensure our first responders can access the hydrant in case of an emergency. Please do the right thing, don't park in front of a fire hydrant, whether the curb is painted red or not. Not only can it cost you citation fees around $50, but it could cause delays in your or your neighbor getting emergency services if the need arises. If you have questions, please contact our Public Works Department at (707) 647-4550.

Napa Junction Family Resource Center Survey - Last Call!
The Neighborhood Initiative of On The Move, utilizes strong partnerships with schools, neighborhood residents, and local agencies to ensure resources are available to address the academic, health, and financial needs of the community. These resources are coordinated and made available through school-based Family Resource Centers. Family Resource Centers prepare and support neighborhood residents to respond to urgent needs surrounding economic stability, immigrant rights, healthcare access, and the provision of exceptional educational opportunities to all children in the neighborhoods.
Very soon, a new Napa Junction Family Resource Center will open. It will serve as a one-stop shop to connect families with vital resources to thrive! You can help design the new Center – a survey is available to help collect input from the community about service needs. The survey will close on January 31, 2022.
