Hello!
Easter marks a special occasion for many, and in “normal” times, this weekend’s beautiful weather would be accompanied by gatherings and celebrations. This weekend will be different.
For the first time in two decades, my immediate family will be sheltered at home away from family and friends. It will be hard, but we are blessed to be able to spend time caring for each other at home. While we will spend a limited amount of time walking the neighborhood each day, we will keep our distance from other groups. I will not be using a car this weekend, and I’m asking you to refrain too.
American Canyon has great walking neighborhoods and trails, and there is no logical reason to drive anywhere right now. If you have to drive to go to a trail or park, you are going too far!
As a reminder, all of our playgrounds and shelters are closed. Please respect your community and stay away from these amenities. We can only afford to keep our passive park areas open if people stay away from those active areas.
Our community is resilient, and we have practice responding to disasters. Sheltering at home is a necessary practice to prevent the spread of COVID-19. We also know that washing your hands, covering your face, and maintaining 6 feet of distance is paramount too. You know, the choices we make will affect our family, our children, our first responders, our healthcare workers, and our community. Please help spread the word to stay home – and remember, we’re all in this together.
Thank you and take care.

Public Health Updates Updates are posted at 11 AM, Monday-Saturday. The latest available test data is also available through this site.
Earlier this week, Napa County’s Public Health Officer presented to the Board of Supervisors on COVID-19. In summary, the measures our community is doing now (Shelter-at-Home and physical distancing), flattens the curve and prolongs the surge. The projections being used may not equal an extended Shelter-at-Home, rather it’s a tool to constantly assess the situation with scientific formulas to provide insight in supporting capacity in our health care system, increase testing, and time for vaccine development. We continue to evaluate the data, and like the state, will continue to evaluate the need for Shelter-at-Home or other actions based on the effectiveness of what we do now.
This is the time for our community to work together, as everyone plays an important role in helping slow the spread of COVID-19. When you go to the supermarket, walk outside, or say hello to a loved one, remember the measures are in place to protect you and the ones you love. Help spread the word, and encourage your family and friends to honor and practice these measures, as we’re all in this together. View Full Presentation.
Easter Sunday For those who observe Easter Sunday, your typical traditions for the holiday may have to be different this year, however, there are still many ways to include family and friends in your celebrations virtually. Below are some ideas for how to celebrate while sheltering in place.
• Organize a family video chat • Get dressed up and take family photos • If you’re religiously observant, live stream a worship service • Prepare a special meal or order takeout/delivery from your favorite local restaurant • Decorate paper Easter eggs to hang in your window • Plan an Easter egg hunt indoors or in your yard • Create new family traditions
Volunteers on Call During the COVID-19 crisis, Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) has created a way for Napa County residents to stand up and say, “I want to help.” It’s Volunteers on Call. With the situation changing so rapidly, we need to be ready to respond with dispatch. With your help, we can. Simply complete this form. Your contact information will NEVER be shared with third parties. Instead, we’ll reach out as needs arise. You always have the option to opt-out if an opportunity doesn’t feel like the right fit. Please feel free to share this link with others. Spread the word – not the virus!
