What a great start to the New Year!
Last weekend, my oldest son and I had the pleasure of participating alongside 40 volunteers to reforest the Newell Open Space Preserve (photos below). With hard work and dedication, we collectively made a positive impact in the areas of the Preserve that sustained fire damage last Fall. Service projects like this symbolize renewal, growth, and unity for the City. There will be many upcoming opportunities to participate in other volunteer projects throughout the year; I'll be sure to share in my future updates.
Each year in February, we host a "State of the City" event to share accomplishments and future goals with the community. Traditionally, this event has included a formal presentation. This year, as we begin the process of our General Plan Update, we are going to change things up. On February 18th, the City Council will hold their regularly scheduled meeting at the Boys & Girls Club. During the meeting, they (along with the community) will receive a presentation of the annual State of the City Report. This Report will be mailed to all residences in mid-February. Following the presentation, the Council meeting will adjourn. Event attendees will then be invited to network and visit informational stations to learn about community organizations and the General Plan Update. After a brief time, attendees will be brought together for a presentation by our General Plan Update Team. This presentation will include interactive exercises where you will be able to provide your valuable opinions to us. The event will also include free on-site childcare and appetizers. The invitation and link to register (the event is free) are included below. We are excited to kick-off our General Plan Update and hope you will all enjoy this opportunity to hear about some of our work last year and where the next 20 years will take us.
Today, we hosted a group of seniors from American Canyon High School for a tour to learn how the City works. This tour is a part of a year-long partnership program with American Canyon High School to engage our local youth in government. Thank you, Wolves, for spending your day with us! Some photos from the tour are posted here.
